Use your old CDs to make gorgeous CD animals that you can hang up in your home or garden.
All you need is a little bit of creativity!
What you’ll need
- Old CDs
- Paper
- Pencils
- Scissors
- Sticky paper
How to make the CD animals
- Use the CDs as a stencil and draw around them on a piece of paper.
- Now draw your additions to the CD around that template.
- Let your child colour them in.
- Next, cut the additions out and use sticking tape to add them to the CD.
- Use bits of magazines or nature to add extra texture to the CDs too!
What have you made with old CDs?

Cool ! I never know what to make with old CD’s. This is a great idea ! And obviously, the more the shinier 🙂
Yep shiny is important, especially with girls!
Very clever and cute!!! The frog cd looks like its about to jump 🙂
I know! The frog is my fave, but that could be because I’m taking care of some little tadpoles at the moment!
Oh I totally LOVE this idea. I’m going to pass it along to my family day care friends. Thanks so much for sharing it!
Thanks Kate! I love when someone loves my ideas, it’s lovely. 🙂
Neat idea! I should do that with my boys.
Gee you’re clever! That’s such an great idea and very effective! 🙂
Thanks Kell. I love them. I’ll have to take them down when it rains (man, I wish it would rain!) because they aren’t waterproof
You could try covering the animals with clear contact or maybe even laminating them after the kids have colored. Wont make them 100% waterproof but will help… Just a thought
You are so handy, and crafty! Do you also do the header yourself?? A techy whizz!??! I’m not ready for Christmas at all – help!
Yep, I made the header. I never thought myself handy but I’m starting to rethink it, so many people think I am! Or perhaps it’s just that I can draw?
How can I help for Christmas? Wine required?
Great ideas with cds.
I love your CD idea. We have never made anything with CD’s yet and I love that you got creative and put them into the garden. N x
Naww thanks Naomi! Yeah, it’s a nice backdrop huh?! Thanks so much for dropping by.
cute and clever! I hang old cds on the washing line to stop the birds pooping on the clean clothes~ it works too and would be even cuter if they were cute critters!
What a great idea. I’m going to move them to the washing line!
What a totally cool idea you clever chicky. 🙂 xx
Thanks for dropping by Sonia!
That’s really cool. You two get up to the best stuff. I’ve never made anything from old CDs. Still playing most of mine (stuck in a time warp!)
Playing is the best! Better than craft really.
Oooh these are cool! One of my girls is mad keen on turtles (can’t wait till she is old enough to have one as a pet, but I can!) so I think she’d love this idea!
Thanks Kate. Turtles are wonderful but remember there is no such thing as a penny turtle. Eventually they will get to just under dinner plate size! Perhaps a snake?
The other girl wants a snake… she is counting the years until she is old enough. I really don’t like snakes, so I’m secretly hoping she’ll change her mind before she hits 15 (she’s only 8!)
He he. Goodluck with that!
Snakes aren’t so bad once you get over the fear of them. They are quiet, need a clean once a week and only need a feed once a week. I’d have one for Miss Possum but Golf Man squeals when he sees one!
What a unique idea. I have seen them strung up but not so prettily.
