I felt an enormous pull to get crafty after seeing these adorable pinwheels a couple of weeks ago. I knew I had to try and replicate my own leaf pinwheel. Time for a nature challenge!
They were easier to make than I first anticipated and I’m really happy with the result but… (I hate when I have to write but) they don’t spin. I know, I know, a pinwheel should spin. It’s just that leaves can be so delicate. I knew that if I tried to make them spin they would fail, so I guess you could say I didn’t bother going there.
It doesn’t really bother me that they don’t spin. Â I think they are beautiful the way they are. Here’s how I made the leaf pinwheels.

Make Leaf Pinwheels
- Collect some leaves. The bigger the better.
- Cut the leaf/s into squares. I used a template. It’s important all sides are equal.
- Cut into the corners of the square like the image below.
- Take the cut corner from the top left of the square and bring it to the middle of the square. Continue moving the left hand corner to the middle of the square and then secure it with a press stud.
- Cut a stick to the length you desire and then using a hot glue gun, glue the leaf pinwheel to the stick.
You can leave your leaf pinwheel as it is or you can use it to decorate gifts, cards or use your pinwheel on the top of a little bottle of nature’s glitter, like I did.
Nature is more versatile than you think. Why don’t you find a craft you like and make it with nature!
