This star nature weave is a lovely ways to celebrate fall, or even Christmas – for those that still have access to leaves.
We’re still in Spring and although we’ve had vibrant coloured flowers, juicy red strawberries and uncurling ferns we’ve also had hot, dry days and howling winds. It’s caused a lot of golden leaves, that would usually be green and soaking in the gentle rays, to die and fall to the ground. The leaf cover in the bushwalk is the thickest I’ve ever seen it.
Still, it’s given us plenty of opportunity to try some of the lovely Fall activities on Pinterest and some of them inspired me to try our own creations and this star nature weave is one of them.
Here’s how to take advantage of the leaves at your place and make a star nature weave of your very own.
What you’ll need
- Seven sticks equal in length
- Three extra small sticks
- Glue gun
- String
- Golden coloured leaves
- Hole punches to help decorate. We used a regular hole punch and a snowflake hole punch (optional).
Star nature weave: how to make itÂ
- Warm up the glue gun.
- Glue three sticks of equal length together to make a triangle.
- Use another three sticks of equal length to make another triangle.
- When the glue had hardened and the sticks are secure, glue one triangle on top of the other triangle to make the shape of a star.
- Stick the last stick of equal lenght to the bottom of the star and secure it with string for extra support. I use the method in this tutorial to secure the string.Â
- The star is quite pretty like this, so you could stop here. If you would like your child to thread leaves through the star, use the glue gun to stick the three smaller sticks in the middle of the star.
- Once all the glue had hardened, it’s time to weave leaves into the star and hole punch some little leaf decorations and glue them on to finish it off.
If you love this nature weave try the Christmas tree nature weave. Your kids will love it!
When the leaves turn brown, your children can take out the old ones and replace them with those lovely citrus coloured leaves again. You can redress the star nature weave over and over. Display it in your home or in your child’s bedroom, when they’re not using it for play.
Using the nature around you, no matter how out of season it may feel, will build creativity. There’s nothing like using your natural surroundings to think up new ways to play, explore and craft with nature.
