We had such a wonderful afternoon yesterday learning letters by stamping onto leaves.
When the girls opened the special wooden box with the tiny little letter stamps inside, they were hooked. The didn’t really care what they stamped but it turns out stamping on leaves is actually really helpful for learning letters and creating words too!
This is the stamp set we used (affiliate). It’s super cute and works a treat on leaves if you use dark stamp ink.
Stamp the alphabet on leaves
See if your children want to stamp the whole alphabet on leaves. It’s excellent to build fine motor skills and a fun way to learn the letters of the alphabet.
Miss E couldn’t wait to get started so she shot down to the backyard and scoured the grass for little dry lily pilly leaves. She had to collect 26, so every two minutes she’d come back with another handful of leaves to place on the table. It took a good 10 minutes for her to collect all of them.
Stamping words on leaves
Later that day my youngest found some leaves that she wanted to stamp too but she was more interested in their colour, so I suggested we stamp the leaves with their colour names. She loved it. It was excellent activity for colour and word recognition.
Make words with letters on leaves
Tomorrow we’re stamping more letters on leaves to add to our alphabet collection so that we can make words with individual letters, stamped on individual leaves.
Check out the fun we had.
Go on, try it. You know you want to. I had just as much fun as the kids!
