We often use Halloween as an excuse to celebrate all the creepy crawlies of the world and spiders are a huge hit in our house at the moment. Here’s an easy way to make spider Halloween treats.
Make Delicious Halloween Desserts
Firstly, print out this template. Lay it on the bench and put some baking paper over the top of it. You should still be able to see the template though the baking paper quite well.
Melt some cooking chocolate in a glass bowl over boiling water. Be sure not to get any water in with the chocolate or it will spoil.
Once melted, let the chocolate sit in the glass bowl for two minutes to cool slightly. Add the melted chocolate into the corner of the freezer bag like the picture below.
Cut a very small hole in the corner of the bag and then start using the chocolate to draw around the template. I found it easiest to draw the spokes of the web first and then follow the circular web shape after.
* If the chocolate is flowing out too fast, give the chocolate more time to cool.
For the spiders, I drew the head and legs first and then filled the body in where needed.
You’ll notice that I’ve added flies to the printable above that are not on the image below. I tried free-hand drawing some flies with the chocolate on some other baking paper. They turned out so well that I had to add them to the template for you.
Halloween Food Treats
Miss Possum decorated this one. As you can see, while making the web with milk chocolate, I filled the gaps in with white chocolate and it looked amazing!
Use the large spider web template to make these chocolate spider webs to sit over the top of the bowl. The girls loved cracking the chocolate and diving into the ice cream below!
We used the smaller spider web templates for the cupcakes.
Then, I tried toffee. I didn’t really use the template for this one. The toffee was just too runny. I used a metal spoon to drizzle the toffee onto the baking paper web ( I need to work on making toffee!). Like the chocolate, I drew the spokes first and then just circled the toffee around the spokes. Best to use a pan under the template and baking paper as the heat from the toffee could damage your bench top.
I must admit that I felt like a bit of a baking star after creating some of these Halloween food treats (I think my hubby and girls did too). We don’t make desserts much in our house but this was such a special treat.
